The 560 SL is a two-door roadster descended from a long line of sports cars produced between 1971 and 1989. The one presented here, of which only 8,251 were built in that year, is a later and thus highly desirable example of the model.
As with other models from Mercedes Benz, the SL line of vehicles was available to European customers with a wide range of engines, transmissions and optional extras. The USA market, however, received only the single configuration of a V8 engine and four-speed automatic gearbox.
Originally powered by a 3.5 liter engine in its earlier form as the 350 SL, Mercedes over the years applied their growing expertise and refinements to the newer versions. By 1986, the designation had changed to 560 SL in reflecting the 5549 cc engine now installed, which produces 227 hp.
Reliable, powerful and aggressively styled, the classic 560 SL is the culmination of Mercedes Benz sports car know-how accumulated over the previous fifteen years or so.
